This is my 15th year teaching - I have taught grades 5-8. This year, I will be teaching 7th grade. I love teaching middle schoolers!
I have a Masters degree in Science Curriculum & Instruction. I enjoy teaching science because I love the hands-on learning and critical thinking that science promotes. I use a variety of research-based classroom techniques that promote 21st Century skills - including technology, "flipping" the classroom, project-based learning (PBL), and inquiry learning. Students don't just learn science facts - they learn to *think* like scientists, because they ARE scientists.
In June, I moved from Costa Rica, where I spent the past
six years teaching middle school science at an international
school. I'm originally from Texas, and I taught elementary and
middle school science in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for eight
years. Now, most of my family lives in Arizona, including my
mother, younger brother, and three awesome nephews (Jaden,
Caleb, and Noah). This is my first time living in Arizona, and so
far I'm really enjoying it!
When I'm not teaching, I love to read and relax with Sadie,
my adorable (and spoiled!) weiner dog. You will hear lots
about Sadie during science class. I also love to travel,
especially to places where I can explore nature. I'm a
certified scuba diver, and I spend as much time underwater
as I can. (Sea turtles are the best!)
